- ORGANIZING YOUR WORK HOURS IS A CRITICAL STEP TO IMPROVE TIME MANAGEMENT and maximize productivity, as well as “minimize clutter & procrastination to help focus and feeling more energized.” A few simple steps are: (1) Scheduling your calendar by ‘chunks’ (e.g. Priority Calls, Review Emails, Plan for meetings, Priority Work), with creative tasks planned early in the day when you have more brainpower; (2) Avoid interruptions and/or always saying ‘yes’ to new tasks, especially if they pre-empt other priorities; (3) Turn off the Pings and Notifications by putting devices in Airplane Mode; (4) Always end the day with a realistic to-do list for the next workday. DCG can help with other strategies & tactics. [U.S.NEWS & WORLD REPORT – July 27, 17]
- CONFEDERATE STATUES ARE NOW THE CAUSE OF DISINTEGRATING AMERICAN CULTURE? REALLY?? Not our crumbling infrastructure, bankrupt cities with murderous gangs rioting & burning neighborhoods, or “education systems which matriculate functionally illiterate deranged snowflakes into society? …Videos of brave unemployed liberal arts major & ‘social justice’ warriors illegally pulling down & kicking statues of confederate soldiers is what passes for activism in today’s warped society… The revisionist history now being peddled by the left wing media and their non-thinking acolytes lacks a factual basis, historical context and a true understanding of history… In 1860, this nation was more an amalgamation of States than a centralized government… The Civil War was the climax of decades of tension between the North and South over State’s rights, economic policies, and a myriad of other complex issues (including slavery)… The vast majority of Confederate soldiers who did the fighting & dying didn’t own slaves or fight to maintain slavery, but because a foreign army had invaded their land… Examined within the context of generational theory, the Civil War was unavoidable and a crucial important event in U.S. history – not the shameful episode portrayed by the brain dead faux journalists babbling on CNN and MSNBC… The ignorance and disregard for history knows no bounds for generations taught to feel rather than think, in our government run indoctrination-centers known as public schools, with media reinforcing their ignorance with misinformation, fake news and government-sanctioned propaganda.” This entire ‘national crisis’ is another sad and shameful diversion of focus from truly critical issues. - ONE IN THREE DRIVERS WHO ADMIT TO TEXTING WHILE BEHIND THE WHEEL HAVE THEIR EYES ‘OFF THE ROAD’ by an average of five seconds. Talking on the phone, whether hands-free or hand held, is also bad news “impacting reaction time by up to 40%, according to study at Duke University Psychology & Neuroscience. “The problem is ‘cognitive condition,’ where the brain faces competition for a limited attentional resource and reacts by focusing more on the conversation,” which then results in activity slowing down to regions that should be helping with the driving. “97.5% of drivers don’t drive well when on the phone; the other 2.5% are a scientific anomaly called super-taskers.” [WEB.MD MAGAZINE – June 17]
- NEARLY ONE IN FIVE PASSWORDS USED BY BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS FOR COMPANY ACCOUNTS ARE “EASILY COMPROMISED.” New guidelines from the Nat’l Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) call for (1) “long easy-to-remember phrases… Four random words strung together without spaces are easier to remember and harder to crack than a single word with some letters replaced with random numbers, uppercase & special characters; and (2) Users changing their password only if a breach has been suspected or confirmed.” [TECH REPUBLIC.COM – Aug 9. 17]
- ‘MICROGRIDS’ ARE A SMALL-SCALE POWER SOLUTION which protects against blackouts, cyberattacks, and reduces reliance on expensive energy. The grids are fast becoming popular in America (which already has a 54% share of existing global capacity), “embracing everyone from community developers to military officials… The technology offers a way for communities to collect, store and use their own energy, with sophisticated software to determine when to buy from utility companies and when to sell excess power back… The solar panel and self-contained storage mean that any microgrid can disconnect from a regional electric grid and operate independently if necessary – a huge improvement, both in cost and environmental impact, from the diesel backup generators that many facilitators rely on today.” [TIME – August 21, 17]
